The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has announced that it refunded a total of GH¢426,200.91 to consumers who were overbilled during the third quarter of this year.

In an interview with newseyegh.com, the Ashanti Regional Head of Public Relations at PURC, Richard Asiedu, explained that the Commission carried out both refunds and recoveries during the period under review. According to him, the refunds provided relief to consumers who had been charged more than their actual consumption, resulting in significant savings.

Mr. Asiedu further disclosed that some complaints lodged by the utility companies led to recoveries totaling GH¢80,628.62. He added that through PURC’s interventions, ten meters were replaced, along with seven transformersand five pipelines, as part of efforts to improve service delivery.

He encouraged consumers experiencing challenges with electricity or water services to first engage their service providers or contact the PURC for redress. Mr. Asiedu emphasized that the Commission’s mandate goes beyond tariff regulation, highlighting its role in resolving consumer complaints and promoting fair, reliable, and efficient utility services.
