The Central Regional Head of the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), Madam Francisca Abena Asubonteng Anokye has urged Ghanaians to be extra cautious when purchasing food items as the Christmas season approaches.
Speaking to the media during an engagement on the World Food Safety Day at the Kasoa New Market, Madam Anokye advised consumers to pay close attention to expiry dates on all food products.
She further emphasized the importance of requesting food hygiene permits when visiting restaurants, explaining that any establishment able to present its permit has been certified by the FDA as safe and hygienic.
The FDA’s Director for Food Safety and Consumer Education, Madam Maureen Lartey raised concerns about some traders mixing unwanted substances with food items, a practice she said must stop immediately.
The Vice President of the Kasoa New Market, Madam Lydia Baffoe, appealed to the FDA to intensify its public education efforts, suggesting that sensitization should be continuous rather than conducted once a year.
