The Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, Hon. Vincent Ekow Assafuah, has accused the Attorney General, Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, of intentionally delaying his application seeking to halt the removal and suspension of former Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey-Torkornoo.
According to Hon. Assafuah, his petition was filed at the Supreme Court in April 2025, yet the Attorney General has made no visible effort to ensure that the matter receives the urgent attention it deserves.
Speaking in an interview with newseyegh.com, he revealed that his legal team only received correspondence from the Attorney General three days ago. The letter, addressed to the Supreme Court with a copy sent to his lawyer, Godfred Yeboah Dame, reportedly cited administrative bottlenecks, Dr. Ayine’s involvement in the 2025 presidential transition process, and other pressing official duties as reasons for the delay in responding to the petition.
Hon. Assafuah, however, dismissed these explanations as mere excuses, describing them as a deliberate attempt by the Attorney General and the NDC government, led by President John Dramani Mahama, to obstruct justice and fast-track the removal of the former Chief Justice. He argued that the government’s conduct demonstrates a disregard for fairness and due process.
Despite what he termed “tactical delays” by the Attorney General, Hon. Assafuah affirmed that he and his legal team will appear before the Supreme Court on Thursday, October 30, 2025, to observe proceedings and assess possible alternative legal actions to ensure that justice is served.
