The Adontenhene of the Kwahu Traditional Area and Chief of Abetifi, Akyemfour Asiedu Agyemang III, has issued a firm caution to individuals believed to be behind the recent attack on the Kwahu Abene Chief’s Palace. Speaking at a press conference held in Abetifi, Akyemfour condemned the incident and expressed deep concern over the treatment of the Queen Mother, Nana Adwoa Gyemfua III, and the Kwahuhene, Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng III, during the disturbances.
According to the Adontenhene, the events at Abene were not only an affront to the traditional leadership but also a direct attack on the dignity and heritage of the Kwahu people. “We will always stand firmly in defense of our rights, our dignity, and our traditions,” he stated, warning that those responsible must desist from further actions or face the appropriate consequences.
He further referenced a viral video showing Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng III in visible distress, noting that it underscored the severity of the situation. Akyemfour clarified that the actions taken by some elders of the traditional council were not in breach of any customary laws. Instead, he described them as a spiritual act intended to counter forces that threaten peace and order within the traditional area.
During the press conference, the Queen Mother, Nana Adwoa Gyemfua III, recounted her arrest at Kwahu Abene and the treatment she reportedly received from the police. Her account sparked intense reactions from attendees, with many expressing concern over the involvement of security personnel in the matter.
In a call for unity, Nana Kwasi Opoku Minta II, the Kwahu Twafohene and Tafohene, appealed for calm. He emphasized that restraint was the best path forward, especially as the Inspector-General of Police has assured the traditional authorities of a thorough investigation into the incident. He urged all factions to allow due process to take its course while the police work to restore peace and clarity to the situation.
