The Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture, Hon. John Dumelo, has announced that the Mahama-led administration is implementing several initiatives to make the agricultural sector more attractive and profitable for young people. Speaking to the press, he highlighted government’s determination to modernize farming and create employment opportunities for the youth through technology and innovation.
According to him, one of the flagship interventions is the “Nkoko Nkitinkiti” Initiative, designed to support poultry farmers with improved technologies, training, and access to finance to enhance productivity and profitability. The Deputy Minister made these remarks at the launch of FarmSense—an AI-powered system developed by KNUST’s DIPPER Lab in partnership with Sesi Technologies. The system provides farmers with soil analysis, crop recommendations, and nutrient management tools using advanced hardware and software solutions.

Hon. Dumelo also emphasized the government’s Institutional Farming Program, which seeks to integrate agriculture into schools, tertiary institutions, and religious organizations. This initiative, he explained, aims to boost local food production, reduce import dependency, and strengthen national food security.
He encouraged young Ghanaians to embrace agriculture not only as a means of ensuring food security but also as a viable avenue for wealth creation and sustainable national development.
