The NPP Chairman for Dormaa West Constituency, Kwame Owusu, has declared his strong confidence in the leadership and presidential bid of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, describing him as the right leader to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to victory in the 2024 general elections.
Speaking during Dr. Bawumia’s visit to the Dormaa West Constituency as part of his tour of the Bono Region, Mr. Owusu praised the NPP flagbearer’s calm temperament and unifying style of leadership, noting that these qualities set him apart from other political figures.
According to him, Dr. Bawumia’s maturity in handling criticism and refusal to engage in divisive politics demonstrate that he is focused on building unity rather than fueling political tensions.
“Everything indicates that Dr. Bawumia is poised to win,” Mr. Owusu stated. “This is evident in his conduct throughout the campaign—he does not respond to insults because he understands the greater responsibility of uniting everyone after the elections.”
Mr. Owusu also spoke candidly about the state of the NPP before Dr. Bawumia was elected as the party’s flagbearer. He admitted that morale within the party was low and that internal challenges had weakened the NPP’s outlook ahead of the elections. However, he credited Dr. Bawumia’s leadership with reviving the party’s spirit and reshaping its electoral prospects.
“If we are to be truthful, before Dr. Bawumia was elected as flagbearer ahead of the 2024 polls, the party was in disarray. I believe we would not have secured more than 20 percent of the votes had the elections been held at that time,” he said.
The Dormaa West Chairman also expressed appreciation to the national executives of the party for organizing an early congress to select the presidential candidate. He believes the decision has provided Dr. Bawumia with sufficient time to strengthen his campaign and connect with grassroots supporters across the country.
“We also want to thank the party’s leadership for organizing an early congress. This will give him enough time to prepare and campaign effectively,” he added.
