The Majority Leader, Hon. Mahama Ayariga, has called on Members of Parliament (MPs) to refrain from monitoring parliamentary proceedings on television from their offices and only entering the chamber after the Speaker has taken his seat. According to him, this practice creates a negative impression of the House and undermines the dignity and seriousness expected of the legislature in performing its constitutional duties.
Hon. Ayariga emphasized that it is improper for MPs to wait until proceedings have already begun before showing up in the chamber. He urged his colleagues to cultivate a stronger sense of responsibility by being punctual and fully participating in debates and discussions from the start of each sitting.
His comments come in response to growing public concern over the frequent absence of MPs, particularly from the Majority side, in recent weeks. Despite these concerns, the Majority Leader clarified that Parliament has consistently maintained the required quorum to conduct official business.
